Eco-Art Sculpture Models

Alter et Idem, (other and same), is a small exhibition of my Eco-Art sculpture models, studies, Marquette’s and installation proposals.  I often make sculpture scale models to examine, explore, and develop, the form, patina, or material choice of an upcoming project.  Sometimes, it’s a series I’m working on, or to revisit a project from the past in smaller form.  Alter et Idem, an Eco-Art exhibition at La Galerie Boulange, in Guidel, France shows about 15 small sculpture models, metal, wood, and resin.

contacted me in the beginning of the year and asked me if I would be interested in discussing a summer art exhibition.  Given the short timeframe, and that they also were liaison for a large scale installation of mine with CreaPaysasge, a foundational partner of theirs, I had to move fast.  Luckily, I had a few scale models in the studio percolating, and was inspired to do a few more.

Revisiting..

I immediately set to work on revisiting some of my driftwood series.  I didn’t feel they were resolved last time I exhibited them, so went in pretty deep.  One, I immediately wanted to make tribute to the idiot in the White House, so it became an “homage a trump”, complete with fake gold, just like his Home Depot decorations.

Next up, using my patina experience I learned from Al Farrow, I attacked two pieces with a bronze patina product from Sculpt Nouveau.  A few others I reworked with wax, fire, and steel wool.  The usual sculpture routine, add, subtract, repeat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And now for something completely different..

Then things got crazy.  From another project, I had about 5kgs of surplus TiG welding rod, and thought, hey why not make a Helix sculpture scale model out of this rod, what’s the worst that could happen?  TiG welding TiG Rod with a 1/16th electrode, low amps, and a few jigs to eliminate back pain, I just welded it one rod at a time.  Sure.  Easy.  Also found about how difficult protecting the fragile copper surface would be, but that’s another story for another time.

To make things even more fun, Eco-Artist that I am, rescuing surplus materials, I found a box of double-ordered Division plates, so made 50 cm model of that as well, with my 2mm wrench of course.

 

 

Helix TiG sold out in the first 30 minutes of the show, and the intertest, feedback, and support has been amazing.  I can’t thank La Galerie Boulange for all that they’ve done.  I’m truly thankful to Phillipe and Paule for all their hard work.
